Over the last couple of weeks I’ve realised that at the academy your schedule is of no use at all. Its not that I don’t like staying a bit later to help out, I’ll always give a helping hand if I can but what if I have plans. Do I say I cant stay and come across like I don’t care? There is also what if I’ve had a long day and want to leave when the schedule says? Also if I get told to stay do I get that time back? What about bank holidays do I get time back for them? Time off Lunches? Last minute change off plans and The list can go on and on. Is there a set rules to these type of things and are we acting professionally? There is alot of questions but I need to get on with it because at the end of the day I am having fun and want to do we’ll.
Its Been A While
•May 9, 2009 • 1 CommentIts been a long time since I’ve blogged and Im still unsure on this whole blogging thing. I just don’t see myself being able to keep it up and maybe I should challenge myself to blog regularly. I just question do I have the time to blog regularly and/or am I too lazy to blog, Im not too sure. Anyway the reason I’ve decided to blog tonight is I want to talk about how Im feeling about Uni at the moment. The last couple of weeks have been fun doing TSM and I’ve decided that is what I’m going to specialise in, In second year. I like the possibility of looking into automation and I’ve always enjoyed putting things together. For example we have been rigging an elevated platform from the LX gallery and that has been great fun. Being taught how to do it as we do it, I find this is the best method for me to learn. Lets hope we get more off it. There has only been one problem with the last two weeks and it has nothing to do with TSM, its LX. I have been allocated on a TSM role for the A3 production of “Dying for it” which I was extremely happy with but Im only on it till the end of the fit up which is this Friday coming and then moving onto LX for SYT at the Begining of the Tech for the first show. This gives me no time to learn how to use a lighting board or a sound desk but we are expected to know what we are doing for when we get there. This issue has been brought up but I have been told to get help from someone in my own time which I wont have any from the start of next week. This meaning I need to do it on my Lunch breaks but this isn’t fair because we your doing 9 till 9’s all week and you really need your breaks. This is also unfair because people who have been allocated an LX position for “Dying for it” or ” Spring awaking” (another show) have had allocated time during there day to be taught and not having there lunch taken off them. I just feel I’m having to push myself to be taught and not getting pushed to be taught. I do push myself to learn and I do feel if I ask to learn something the tutors are usually willing. I just feel there is no structure to teach certain things and maybe I just need to pick stuff up as I go along myself.
Lighting
•February 10, 2009 • 1 CommentI want to know a lot about Lighting, how it works, why it works and how can we make it better. I was looking forward to my lighting class last week even after my first experience wasn’t very good but i was excited this time. It was a really confusing class, i understood the process which was all rigg the bar and then focus. But names came up and i didn’t know what it was, no one explained it to me until i had to ask. I found i was learning more from my peers than the tutor, to busy on there phone fixing there on situation. There were also to many of my fellow class mates for it to be effective and when it came onto focusing it was slow and boring. Still not keen on going up heights but i didn’t need to do it to focus, i got a FOH light to focus. It was good to practice a bit more. Still feel i want to learn about lighting but my experience haven’t been good but i want to know everything i can about technical theatre.
TSM Classes
•February 3, 2009 • Leave a CommentI learnt alot today in class, names for items which i didn’t know. Amount of weight certain items could take and how they work. I took alot of notes and on lunch write them up, that helped me a lot because notes i didn’t write down i had remembered and write them up too. I also took photo’s and flew a few bars today, Im wanting to do more of that kind of thing.

These were the games that our class invented today in Stagemanagement class based on theatre. The names where only a laugh but the concept of the game was there, Organisation, creativity and fun. It was a good team building exercise and alright. Im also hoping to feel better for tomorrows class, feeling rough and not in a hung over way. Man Flu kills!!!!
